Labor Day

While trying to get Ruth and Lily to pick up their mess, had this conversation:
Me: Today's a Holiday called Labor Day.
Ruth: Really? Why is it a holiday?
Lily: It's a holiday? Yea!! (launches into song)
Me: It's all about celebrating the fact that you can work. So why don't you get to work and pick up all your toys.
(Amazingly enough that worked)
Ruth: OK

Later,
Ruth: Mom, I want to check the mail.
John: No mail today. It's a holiday.
Ruth: But if it is a holiday about work, then why isn't the mail man working?
Me: Oh, if you work everyday, then you get to celebrate by not working, but if you don't work like you, then you get to celebrate by working.
Ruth: (wheels spinning) Oh
Lily: It's a holiday!! Yay!! (Dances and twirls away)
Ruth chewed on that for a while. John and I laughed and I think she actually was more helpful then usual. I love creative explanations. They are my favorite.
